Round about this time of year, when winter is almost over, resorts are closed and we are sick of mud, my husband and i take off for the desert. This year we had the added benefit of a visit from my niece. So we high tailed it out of town with the dogs and headed south. After a brief stop in St George to drop off the dogs for an overnight in a kennel. Which they LOVED. We headed to Las Vegas–Hard Rock Hotel (awesome) for some crazy city life.

Brogan tested her mtn bike skills in Bolder-Dave had us on this super fun and easy trail by the Hoover Damn. Spent the night in Vegas–what happens in Vegas, stays in Vegas and headed back up to Utah–where it was snowing on Gooseberry Mesa. Ugh!!

We opted for a hike on our first day and headed up to Angel’s Landing. I did not make it to the top. It was a crazy steep and hairy climb. Brogan and Dave finished the climb and came back to show me the photos. For the next two days we biked. Jem trail, one of my favorite cruiser trails and then up on the mesa. Good fun. My drink of choice for the trip were Margaritas. There is something delicious about tequila and salt in the desert.

Aside for just being completely adorable Kosmo is starting to learn some respect. He has come, sit, lay down, and now he is getting heal. Pretty good for a 5 month old puppy. I have heard it said that the Weimaraner is the thinking breed. I have to agree-this breed is smart. He also understands NO, but doesn’t care to comply often. Next is stay–we may have to wait a while on that one. He is still a blue menace.

Hi all

I was searching the web today for information on burning Cottonwood trees for heating and found this website. I thought those of you who heat with wood in the winter would like this info.

http://www.woodheat.org/firewood/firewood.htm

Here in Tollgate Canyon, Utah. I find the crackling sound of the fire adds ambiance to my day and helps warm me quickly after my x-country ski. Reduced heating/propane bills also are a bonus. My husband loves many things about the fire and whole wood gathering season. It is helps him stay in shape in winter and after bike season is over. I think he has FIREWOOD OCD as described on the web site he likes to talk about his extensive wood pile and how many cords of wood we have stacked. It may also be all of the tools involved, chainsaw, ax, and maul. He takes great pride in all of this equipment and I have to admit there is something about a man that can split wood.

so… does anyone know anything about burning cottonwood?

Happy New Year!

Sundance Film Fest is one of the things Park City is known for. This festival draws people from all over the world. People come out to see the stars and movies that will be talked about for the next year. For Parkites, it is a time is a mixed blessing. Restaurants and bars are packed and there is no parking in town. It is also the best time to ski. Locals can be sure that the hotels are full and the slopes are nearly empty. You may even have a star sighting on the resort. After all you can watch movies all the time. Sundance starts off Thursday 01/21/10 and continues for the week.

Locals can buy tickets 01/10/10 at the Sundance box office of main st.
